LSv1: Choose

Hey journal. I've written so many songs in this era of music. Most of them neatly fit into one of the 3 "emotional framings" of venting, thirsting, or falling (more on these in another entry…). The songs outside of those themes speak to something different. Hence, the "Love, Simply" series.

Love, Simply, Volume 1 features Pressure and Torn. These songs came about pretty independently: I made a verse and hook for Pressure (here’s the OG version), wrote Torn a few months later, and finished writing Pressure a few weeks after that. But the themes of each song felt so connected that I knew I wanted to release them together (I also like the idea of dropping "duples" instead of singles, so people can get a taste of my singing and rapping 😎).

I spend a lot of time and emotional energy trying to make decisions, as I'm sure we all do. In an age where we have access to so many options, it's difficult to know which option is "correct" or at least "less bad". The pressure to make the right choice is pervasive in every context of life: relationships, career, social interactions, online presence, the list goes on.

So this project has a few purposes.

1. To acknowledge life's difficulties. Choices often come at the expense of other viable options. Or we end up in situations where our options are between bad and less bad, but we have to pick one.

2. To be a reminder that we are still here. Despite (or perhaps because of?) being flawed and torn and indecisive, we continue. We persevere. We keep on stepping and keep progressing. Our ability to choose comes with the pressure of feeling torn, but we still must choose.

What decisions have you feeling torn right now? How do you manage the pressure?
